Harrisburg Pennsylvania-The theft of SNAP/EBT food assistance funds meant for low-income families, elderly parents, people with disabilities, and vulnerable individuals is increasing across the United States. In the Greater Harrisburg Area—especially Dauphin County—many families report that their entire EBT balance disappears overnight. Some have lost more than $1,000, money essential for food, medicine, and daily survival.
According to social worker and community advocate Tika Dhungana, while replacement cards are often issued, stolen funds are rarely reimbursed—leaving seniors, people with disabilities, and struggling families facing hunger. Language barriers and lack of legal awareness prevent many victims from reporting these crimes.
This is not just fraud; it is an attack on human dignity and social safety nets. Affected individuals are strongly encouraged to file complaints with the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office to help discourage these scams and hold offenders accountable
