Celebrating Women’s Leadership: Kumari Regmi Honored with “Empowerment in Action Award”

New York — As communities across the nation celebrate women’s leadership and achievements, Kumari Regmi has been recognized with the prestigious “Empowerment in Action Award of the Year” during the 2026 Exceptional Women of Central New York recognition ceremony presented by Pamela J. Hunter.

The official citation from the New York State Assembly described Regmi as “an inspiring woman who turns vision into impact by uplifting and empowering others, creating opportunities, amplifying voices, and fostering confidence within individuals and communities.”

Born in Bhutan, Regmi spent 17 years in the Timai refugee camp in Nepal before immigrating to the United States in 2009. Her journey from refugee life to becoming a respected healthcare professional and community leader reflects resilience, perseverance, and determination.

Today, Regmi serves as a Family Nurse Practitioner, adjunct faculty member at State University of New York Polytechnic Institute, and co-owner of Caring Family Health and KB Property Service NY LLC. Alongside managing multiple professional responsibilities, she is also a devoted mother raising three young children under the age of nine.

Despite her demanding schedule, Regmi remains actively engaged in advocacy and community service. She currently serves as the Upstate New York Delegate for the Refugee Congress and as Health and Wellness Director for the Global Bhutanese Hindu Organization. Through these roles, she has worked to support refugee, immigrant, and underserved families throughout Central New York.

The Assembly citation further recognized her commitment to “advancing health equity and expanding opportunity for underserved communities while building knowledge, confidence, and leadership that empowers individuals to advocate for themselves and others.”

Speaking about balancing family life, professional responsibilities, and community leadership, Regmi credited her strong family support system for making her accomplishments possible. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to her parents and in-laws for helping care for the children whenever needed.

“This would not be possible without them,” Regmi shared. “Their love, encouragement, and willingness to support our family make everything possible.”

She also extended special appreciation to her husband, Bikash Regmi, for continuously encouraging and motivating her to grow professionally and serve the community.

During the ceremony, Assemblymember Hunter stated, “My annual Exceptional Women of Central New York Award gives us all a wonderful opportunity to gather and celebrate the women who make a difference and better our communities.”

Regmi said she feels deeply honored and humbled to receive the recognition and hopes her story inspires young women, refugees, immigrants, and future leaders to continue believing in themselves regardless of the obstacles they may face.

Kumari Regmi’s recognition stands as a powerful example of resilience, compassion, leadership, and service — highlighting the extraordinary impact one woman can make within her family, community, and society.
