SYRACUSE, NY \u2014 The Bhutanese Community in Syracuse (BCS) successfully celebrated its Dashain Tihar Dhamaka on Friday, October 30, 2026, bringing together approximately 150 community members for an evening filled with cultural performances, traditional music, food, and celebration.
The event, held at the India Community Religious and Cultural Center (ICRCC) in Syracuse, aimed to preserve and promote Bhutanese Nepali culture and traditions while educating younger generations about their cultural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of a Certificate of Recognition by Nicole Watts, Chairwoman of the Onondaga County Legislature, recognizing the Bhutanese Community in Syracuse and its contributions to the local community. BCS President Bikash Regmi accepted the certificate on behalf of the organization.The recognition marked a proud moment for BCS and its members, reflecting the organization’s ongoing commitment to cultural preservation, community engagement, and strengthening relationships within the broader Central New York Community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Celebrating Culture and Educating the Next Generation
The celebration featured colorful traditional dances, singing, and cultural presentations that showcased the rich heritage of the Bhutanese Nepali community.Students from the BCS Nepali Language Program delivered special performances, demonstrating their growing knowledge of the Nepali language, culture, and traditions. Their participation was especially meaningful, as one of the primary goals of the event was to connect children born and raised in the United States with their cultural roots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another major attraction was the traditional Deusi-Bhailo, an important part of the Tihar festival. Participants enthusiastically took part in traditional singing and celebration, creating a joyful atmosphere and introducing younger generations to this cherished cultural practice.Many attendees dressed in traditional Nepali attire, adding vibrant colors and cultural significance to the evening. Guests also enjoyed traditional foods, bringing families and community members together through shared culturalexperiences.Community Participation and Volunteer Efforts Bikash Subedi, BCS Director of Events, emphasized that community participation was key to the celebration\u2019s success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur goal was not only to celebrate Dashain and Tihar, but also to give our children an opportunity to learn about our traditions, language, and cultural values. Seeing them take part in cultural performances and Deusi-Bhailo was one of the most rewarding parts of the evening. Events like this remind us that our culture stays alive when we share it with the next generation,\u201d said Subedi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
